Lavender’s Speech

“We youths have something to tell the community, but nobody listens to us. There is nobody to give attention that we need to be given. We want to speak out about what we have in our hearts, but the world tells us to keep quiet and that makes nobody listen to our story, with nobody to support us.

But being born in a poor environment or family does not mean that we too are poor. If we really stand up and say no to drugs and yes to Education, we can really change this place to be a better place to live in, where people can understand each other. If I can be given the opportunity to speak out, I can speak a lot of things in my heart. I feel very bad about young people misusing their lives for no good reason, just because nobody can understand them and listen to what they have in mind. Let us always remember the saying of Obama, the president of the United States of America, that “YES WE CAN.” We can change where we live by any means of support and encouragement. Truly ability can be nothing without opportunity. So, when I grow up and become a lawyer and journalist, I will make sure that I change my society by supporting young boys and girls who think that the community has forgotten them.
YES I CAN
YES WE CAN
CHANGE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN LIFE”
excerpt from a speech written by Lavender, addressing the importance of global education
