“We The Change” Foundation
GoodMakers filmed a short documentary for “We The Change” Foundation, a primary school located in a tiny room in the heart of the Mathare slum in Nairobi. Here is one version:
“We the Change” Foundation aims to inspire and to empower individuals to be the change that they wish to see in the world. Visionary founder Soiya Gecaga envisions a world where millions of lives are transformed as a result of people working together as one united global community.
In many ways, Mathare is typical of a slum environment with tin roofs, people crammed up next to each other, kids roaming unattended and a sewer running openly down the middle of the road filled with human excrement.
On the other hand, there is so much life going on… Vendors selling chapati, fruits and vegetable stands, a mix of make-shift shops including butcheries, hair salon, computer repair and so much more. It’s a vibrant community that has its own unique rules for survival, but ultimately, it’s home to thousands of people who are striving to make their lives better every day.
