“We The Change” Foundation

GoodMakers filmed a short documentary for “We The Change” Foundation, a primary school located in a tiny room in the heart of the Mathare slum in Nairobi. Here is one version: “We the Change” Foundation aims to inspire and to empower individuals to be the change that they wish to see in the world. Visionary founder Soiya Gecaga envisions a world where millions of lives are transformed as a result of people working together as one united global community. In many ways, Mathare is typical of a slum environment with tin roofs, people crammed up next to each other, kids roaming unattended and a sewer running openly down the middle of the road filled with human excrement. Agape Youth Conference

In April, the GoodMakers Street Team was invited to teach creative workshops with the kids at Agape’s Revelation Conference in Los Angeles. DJ Jawa shared his love of music with the kids, letting them take a turn with his tables and do a little scratching for the group. Marushka introduced the kids to mind mapping, spoken word & citizen journalism, getting them to openly express themselves and realize that there is no such thing as a silly idea. Max presented his Kicks for Good initiative and had the kids design and color their shoes. Guicemann was there for inspiration, working on pairs along side them. Alive & Kicking/Tackle Africa

GoodMakers will shoot a short documentary about the amazing Alive & Kicking organization- A Nairobi socio enterprise that manufactures soccer balls for children, creates jobs for adults and promotes health education through sport.  Alive & Kicking partner with Tackle Africa to provide critical health awareness through sport with a focus on anti-malaria and HIV prevention.  We will follow the making of a hand sewn soccer ball that will travel into the Kibera slums for a soccer clinic that is being hosted for hundreds of youth.  The film will show the effectiveness of these organizations in sharing critical health education to some of the most marginalized youth, in a fun and culturally relevant way.
